About the program
This research experience introduces students to computational biology and bioinformatics through project-based learning and personalized mentorship. Students investigate real-world biomedical challenges while developing the analytical and computational skills used by researchers around the world.
Students build a foundation in computational methods before applying them through an independent research project, working closely with a mentor throughout.

Exploring biology through data.
Students discover how biology and computer science come together to solve modern biomedical challenges. Through hands-on workshops and guided activities, participants learn how researchers analyze biological datasets, investigate genetic information, and apply computational tools to answer scientific questions.

Foundations
How biology and computer science meet, and what a biological dataset actually looks like.

Methods
Sequence alignment, genome analysis, protein structure, and the databases researchers work from.

Question
Each student settles on a question of their own, with a mentor helping to make it answerable.

Working with real data, choosing a method, and interpreting what the results do and do not show.

The finished piece of work, prepared for presentation.
Two tracks, one shared mission. Students build a foundation in both computational biology and public health before applying it to a question of their own.
Every student works one to one with a mentor.
Following the instructional workshops, students begin developing independent research projects while meeting individually with a mentor who provides personalized guidance at every stage: refining research questions, strengthening methodology, analyzing data, troubleshooting challenges, interpreting findings, and preparing final projects for presentation.
This individualized mentorship ensures every participant receives meaningful feedback while building confidence as an emerging researcher.

Students are applying what they have learned as they develop original research projects. Over the coming months this section will be updated with project milestones, analyses, research posters, and presentation highlights.
As projects are completed we look forward to publishing student research, showcasing final presentations, and celebrating the work accomplished through months of collaboration and mentorship.
