Books Across Borders
Expanding access to the resources every child deserves.
Throughout July, FutureVitals brought our community together for a month-long Book & Resource Drive supporting children in Tanzania. Collection efforts reached across the Richmond area, with books gathered at Bon Secours hospitals, Pouncey Tract, River’s Edge Elementary School, and Twin Hickory Park, alongside additional community contributions.
With the support of our volunteers, including incredible Bon Secours volunteers, families, students, and community members, we have collected nearly 847 books so far.
Why Books Matter
At FutureVitals, health literacy goes beyond understanding a diagnosis or knowing how the body works. It begins with something even more fundamental, access to knowledge.
Books give children opportunities to build literacy, explore science, understand themselves and the world around them, and develop the confidence to keep learning. Yet access to educational resources remains deeply unequal.
Our drive is one small part of changing that. We believe resource equity is essential to health equity, and that where a child grows up should never determine whether they have the tools to learn, explore, and advocate for their future.
From Virginia to Tanzania
The books collected through this initiative are being prepared for shipment to the Tanzanian Children’s Fund, where they will help expand access to reading and educational resources for children in Tanzania.
Collecting the books is only the beginning.

These books traveled thousands of miles because hundreds of people believed that you deserve the opportunity to read, discover, learn, and dream.
